Russia for the European Under-19 Championship, Nick Jennings (Churchills) posted
the highest break of the Winchester City & District Snooker League’s
season. The
17-year-old’s 115 in his first frame against James Byrnes (Winchester SC A)
was described as “awesome” by his captain Mark McLean. Churchills’
10-0 home win clinched the Division 1 title. Dan
Hildyard (94), Billy Castle (91) and Adam Nash (57 and 64) helped runners-up
Bishopstoke Institute romp to a 10-0 away win at Winchester Club. In
Division 2, Barry Scott (Worthies) posted a 33. Tuesday’s

104 against Dan Hildyard as Churchills ended Bishopstoke Institute’s hopes of
retaining the Winchester City and District Snooker League Division 1 title. Four-man
Bishopstoke were beaten 7-3 at home. JAMES Hollick, 15, matched
his highest break of 33 in a 1-1 draw with Rory Lord (ERI) in the Winchester
City and District Snooker League. Hollick’s
C/Ford SC C side, a player short and bottom of Division 1 with just one win,
lost 7-3 at home but climbed one place. Suzie
Opacic and Alex Dunkley take on Dan Hildyard and Billy Castle in the pairs final
at Winchester Snooker Centre on Thursday at 8pm. Bishopstoke
WMC hosts a reps meeting on Wednesday at 8pm. The
league’s annual Triton Trophy for under-18s will be held at Chandler’s Ford
SC next Saturday at 9.30am.
THE two giants of the
Winchester City and District Snooker League are set for a championship showdown
in March. Churchills
beat their title rivals and defending champions Bishopstoke Institute at home
recently to take a two-point lead at the season’s halfway point. Both
captains see the return fixture on March 10 as the crunch match. Mark
McLean, who lifted the Division 1 trophy five times on the spin with
Chandler’s Ford A before moving to Churchills, said: “The only threat
we’ve got is Bishopstoke. “We’ve
proved we’re better than them because we beat them 6-4. It’s going to come
down to us going over to their place.” Bishopstoke
skipper Scott McGaw said: “It’ll go down to the final game. Churchills have
got to beat us to win the league. I’d say we’re favourites to win the league
- again.” McLean,
who also leads Churchills A in the Southampton Premier, added: “I want to do
the double.” In
the latest round of matches, Bishopstoke scored a 7-3 home win over Winchester
Club. Churchills
won 7-3 away at former champions Winchester Snooker Centre A. McLean
is close to announcing plans for a scratch competition in the South. Week-nine

tie against ERI A. Aaron Murray drew with Richard Pacey while Bouwe Bosma lost
2-0 to Ray Long. Eastleigh
Railway Institute B have withdrawn from Division 1 due to lack of players. All
