Week Sixteen... Handicaps make it all so close, as every match this week ends in a 3 - 3 draw

Week Fifteen... Churchill's (Derek Foster 39, 36) storm in with a 5 - 1 win over Woolston Cons. Chandlers Ford get off the bottom with a solid 4 - 2 win at home to Netley. Curdridge in command at home to Hamble with a 6 - 0 whitewash and Hythe eek out a 4 - 2 win at Sarisbury. Totton had the bye and go bottom.

Week Fourteen... not for the faint-hearted... Top team Churchills lose 6 - 0 at Hamble, Hythe draw 3 - 3 at home to Curdridge and Totton Rec push Chandlers Ford to the bottom spot with a 4 -2 win. Sarisbury postpone against Netley Central.

Week Thirteen... not unlucky for Churchills who complete the double on C/Ford and 6 points clear at the top. 5 - 1 this time with breaks from John Mullane(50) Terry Azor(44) and victors Paul Adams(34, 32) Derek Foster(32). Sarisbury win 5 - 1, Netley win 4 - 2 and Curdridge draw with Woolston Cons.

In a postponed match, Churchills (Paul Adams 86 break) beat C/Ford Central 6 - 0.

Week Twelve... 5 - 1 was the order of the day. Wins for Churchills, Curdridge. Hamble and Woolston Cons who beat Hythe, Chandlers Ford, Netley and Totton respectively. Paul Adams finds solid form with breaks of 65, 51 and 47.

Week Eleven... results coming in proved somewhat shocking.... Hamble beat C/Ford 6 - 0. Woolston Cons beat Netley Cent 6 - 0. Last years Champs Hythe, lost 4 - 2 at home to Totton,  Wayne Crotty ran out with a fine 58 unfinished when Steve Allen needed just 10 to win. Tony Aldridge, out of action with a broken left wrist, played his first game for 7 months and beat Tony Scarborough by 8, scoring a 30 break and a 31 unfinished. Sarisbury won 5 - 1 at Curdridge.

Week Ten... and high breaks were a little elusive... Danny comes in with a 40 and a 46, Paul Adams 47, and 39, Steve Allen 37, Clive Gamblin 36 and Mike Kunzi 30. Sarisbury, Hamble and Totton all win 4 - 2, while Woolston win 2 tables and the aggregate for a 3 - 3 against visiting C/Ford Central.

Week Nine... and the first Cycle of three is complete apart from the 2 outstanding postponed matches. 6 - 0 wins for both Hythe and Churchills, while a 4 - 2 home win for Netley keeps them firmly on top. Four man Hamble earned a 3 - 3 draw at home to Sarisbury.

Week Eight... Derek Foster (Churchills) found the Netley tables to his liking as he rolled in with a 62 break, helping his team to level the match at 3 - 3. Same results for Totton Rec (Mike Kunzi 46 break) v Hamble, and Sarisbury v Woolston Cons. Battle of the "giants" went 4 - 2 to C/Ford Central when they entertained Hythe.

Week Seven... Chris Pullen and his mighty Netley Central team storm to top position, after their fine 5 - 1 win away to Curdridge. Same score for Terry's battlers down at Sarisbury, as they endeavour to regain the League trophy from Hythe. Four man Hamble managed to draw 3 - 3 at Woolston Cons while Churchills swiftly moved off the bottom with a 4 - 2 win at home to Totton. Paul Adams slotting home a solid 69 break and he was well supported by in form team mate Derek Foster (31, 32).

Week Six... John Mullane again, another 100 break, this time at Netley Central but the home side win 4 - 2. Same result for Woolston Cons as they hold off Churchills. Hamble and Hythe do well, both winning 5 - 1 and Wayne Crotty scoring a fine break of 87 for the latter when entertaining Curdridge and Sarisbury respectively.

Week Five... John Mullane (Chandlers Ford Central) sets the pace with a fine 110 break at home to Totton Rec, helping his team to a 4 - 2 victory, but it's Curdridge who go top after taking 4 off the champs, Hythe. Churchills enjoyed a 5 - 1 success at home to Hamble with Paul Adams scoring 42, 41 and a 37 unfinished when beating Tony Spridgeon and Derek Foster getting the better of Rob Shattock, thanks to a 31 break. Netley Central appear to have strenghth in depth and with a 4 - 2 win over Sarisbury, could be the team to watch.....

Week Four... Totton Rec (Steve Allen 48 break) beat Sarisbury 4 - 2 while Curdridge, Woolston, Netley and Hythe all draw, 3 points each. Churchills and Chandlers Ford were postponed.

Week Three... Totton Rec postpone against Woolston Cons while Netley Central win 5 - 1 at Hamble. Churchills take 4 off the Champions and Curdridge win by the same score at Chandlers Ford. Sarisbury had a bye, but hang on to second place, one point adrift of Hythe and with a match "in hand".

Week Two ...Champions Hythe stepped up a gear from their 3 -3 draw with Hamble to win 4 - 2 away to Totton Rec. Sarisbury continued their early season momentum with a 4 - 2 win over Curdridge while Woolston Cons achieved a similar score at Netley Central. Hamble made good use of their handicaps to beat the might of Terry's team from Chandlers Ford, making a "full house" of 4 - 2 results.

Week One ... Sarisbury put in a good performance, beating Churchill's 4 - 2 at the Eastleigh club. Totton Rec won by the same margin down at Curdridge, and Chandlers Ford recorded a 4 - 2 win at home to Woolston Cons. Last years Champs, Hythe clung on for the 3 - 3 draw against the visiting 4 man team from Hamble.

Final League Match

   from 23rd Feb 2011 C/Ford Central 4  Netley Central 2

Congratulations to Hythe Social

They have won the Southampton Billiard League title after a nail
biting aggregate points total tot-up of the whole of the seasons
matches! (so... what happened to a final play-off, on neutral ground, when two teams tie right across the board, at the end of the season ?)

Chandlers Ford Central played their postponed match (23.2.2011)
against Netley Central at Chandlers Ford last Thursday evening...

The first pairing saw an improving Wayne Muddiman beat Netley's Chris
Wilkins 200-105. The match was levelled by Netley's Mark Stansmore as
he overcame Paul Tavender 200-139. Chandlers Ford captain Terry Azor
beat Chris Christodoulou 200-163 and Daniel Zagaroli made 51 and 99
during his 200-160 victory over Netley's Steve Hulbert. That meant
Chandlers were 3-1 up, needing 5 points to win the league!

Netley's Chris Pullen went on against a rapidly improving Mark Shirley
and played well to beat the ex Pot Black player 200-164. This meant
Chandlers won the match 4-2 to tie with Hythe on 55 points, with the
same number of matches won and lost! Churchills Club Eastleigh were 1
point behind on 54

It was agreed by the Executive Committee that the total individual
player points for both teams would be added up to decide the winning
team. Hythe scored 14,855 points over the 16 games and Chandlers Ford
scored 13,446. Chandlers Ford's total did not include their full
points score for their away match with Hamble Social (15.12.2010) as
no results card arrived. Chandlers had won the match 4-2. This gave
them at least 600 points for the three games won, so this was added to
their score. Even if they had won 6-0 (1000 points) they would have
not beaten Hythe's overall points total – eventually winning by 1,409
points.

earlier news

Week 18 Another ton for Danny, this time 115 down at Hythe, but opponent Mike Rose hangs on to win by 3. John Oldfield, reproducing some of his 1980's form, knocked in a superb 83 to help his team to a 5 - 1 win at Woolston Cons. Bottom placed Netley won by the same score, spoiling Churchills chances of hitting the top spot. Hamble beat Totton 4 - 2

Week 17 all matches result in 4 - 2 and Hythe Soc, who had the bye this week hang on to the lead. The target is 16 matches, so not long to go now.

Week 16 C/Ford beat Woolston Cons 5 - 1 and Danny knocks in a 75 break whilst losing to Sid....

Week 15 C/Ford Central postpone again... 3 matches in hand and a potential 18 points available... can they catch Hythe? Churchills win 4 - 2 and are within striking distance. Curdridge win 4 - 2 at home to Hamble, but having lost 5 of the season's matches could be out of the running.

Week 14 Hythe suffer at the hands of Curdridge. Terry takes a strong team to Totton Rec and after winning 4 - 2, Chandlers Ford Central are back in the hunt for the Championship (John Mullane 76 and 75). Hamble hold off Churchills with their expansive play and Sarisbury earn a win down at Netley.

Week 13 and Hythe are back on track with a 4 - 2 win at home to Netley. All the remaining home teams won 5 - 1. Sarisbury beat Totton. C/Ford beat Churchills and Woolston beat Curdridge.

Week 12 Hythe suffer at the hands of Churchills. Paul Adams features with a 58 break and this 6 - 0 result throws the Championship wide open.....

watch this space !

Week 11 saw Totton Rec inflict the double on League leaders Hythe Social, a 4 -2 win home and away, but the highlight of the evening was a superb and timely 84 break by Wayne Crotty. Also Chandlers Ford Central scored a double over Hamble 4 - 2. Sarisbury turned it on at Curdridge to win 5 - 1 and the same score was enjoyed by Woolston Cons who entertained Netley Central.

Next week we see the start of the Usher Cup, where aggregate scores will be the order of the day. Here is the draw for Weds 19th Jan 2011

TOTTON REC V CURDRIDGE BL

CHURCHILLS V SARISBURY SOCIAL

CHANDLERS FORD CENTRAL V NETLEY CENTRAL

HYTHE SOCIAL V HAMBLE SOCIAL

WOOLSTON CONS BYE
Thursday 3rd Feb WOOLSTON CONS AWAY TO WINNER OF HYTHE SOCIAL and HAMBLE SOCIAL

Week 10 first reverse fixture and Curdridge inflict the double on Totton Rec. Hythe go clear after their 5 - 1 win at lowly Hamble. Sarisbury turn to home advantage with a superb 5 - 1 win over Churchill's. C/Ford and Woolston Cons postponed.

Week9 and it's halfway house for the Southampton Billiards League.

Handicaps will be adjusted shortly, but is it too late to catch those two joint leaders? They are 9 points clear, and the teams with a game in hand (Hamble v Sarisbury) are not within striking distance.

Week 8  all very close at the top after Churchills storm in with another 5 - 1 win

Week 7 and Danny once again scores the high break of the week, 80 on the Sarisbury tables, but this time he did not win. John Oldfield replied with a 70 break and won the game by 66 points. C/Ford came away with 4 points. Churchill's won 5 - 1 at home to Totton Rec while Hamble got off the bottom by winning 4 at Woolston Cons. Hythe had the bye and Netley Central called for a posponement against Curdridge.

Week 6 and no stopping Danny Zagaroli as he dominates play at Netley Central and the C / Ford team romp to a 6 - 0 win. Another 6 go to Churchills who take maximum from Sid's Woolston side. League leaders Hythe win 4 - 2 against the improving Sarisbury, but Curdridge go down 4 - 2 against bottom placed Hamble.

Week 5 and Hythe go top after their 5 - 1 win over Curdridge. Totton Rec take 4 points at Chandlers Ford whilst Sarisbury return to winning ways with a 5 - 1 win at home to Netley. But the star performance comes from Peter Green's Chuchills team who inflict the whitewash on lowly Hamble.

Danny Zagaroli continues his good form, relishing in those 50+ breaks and conceding all amounts of handicap to all-comers. This week a fine 57 and 55 gets him to the winning post.

Week 4 Captain Gwen Gamblin, steering her Curdridge team to success on the Wednesday nights... 18 points in the bag and so far unbeaten.

Paul Adams (Churchills) slots home an impressive 75 break which included 14 hazards, against last years champions.

Early days yet, but follow the fortunes of this keen and talented team as they head towards Christmas. There next match is home to second placed Hythe Social..... it will be a cracker !!

and this turning out to be a two horse race?  Curdridge maintain their number one spot with a 4 - 2 win at home to Woolston Cons and Hythe win by the same score down at Netley. Totton take 4 at home to Sarisbury and Churchills win by the same margin against last years winners C/Ford.

Week 3 and Curdridge again earn a valuable win away to last years Champions Chandlers Ford Central. Hythe Social clean up at home to Churchills with a superb 6 - 0, while Woolston Cons and Netley Central settle for the 4 - 2 win.

earlier news

Curdridge go top on week 2 after a superb 6 - 0 away win on the Sarisbury tables.

Danny Zagaroli (C/Ford Central) underlined the fact that he is the current Southampton Champion by slotting in a 99 break in their 4 - 2 win away to Hamble.

Both Netley and Totton Rec opened their accounts with a 4 - 2 win.

Much talk continues re: the removal of the point for the aggregate, a feature which has been synonymous with Southampton Billiards for 72 years. In some instances, aggregate or no aggregate, the match result would be the same. But on other occasions, as in the Totton v Hythe match this week, Hythe would have earned a 3 - 3 draw as their aggregate was higher..... we will see, as the season progresses.

Meanwhile, Hythe dropped valuable points at Curdridge, going down 4 - 2 and Sarisbury were held to a draw by visiting Hamble.

Woolston Cons B also drew and having completed all their matches, end up mid table. Woolston Cons A conceded their match with Netley.

The match was off..... then it was on. Chandlers Ford versus Woolston Cons B was played and Danny and Terry produced the goods. Danny knocked in a superb 109 and Terry followed up with 101. and C/Ford ran out 4 - 2 winners. Meanwhile, closest rivals, Sarisbury and Hythe both lost 4 - 2 which may prove crucial at the end of the season.

Totton took 5 down at Hamble where the home players averaged only 67 points per player

after Wednesday night's matches, a seven point gap has appeared between third and fourth place in the current league table.

Terry's team made no mistakes in their first home match at their new club, winning 6 - 0 against visitors Hamble. Sarisbury hang in there with a 5 - 1 win away to Curdridge and Hythe win by the same score away to Woolston Cons B.

Churchills made short work against last years champs, and climb to seventh place ............. Totton Rec drew 3 - 3 with four man Netley Central.

Totton have now played Woolston Cons B, postponed from 6th Jan, and Totton won 5 - 1, jumping into fourth place......

with a target of 18 matches to complete the season, can any teams stop the "Azor Billiards Machine" from regaining the League Championship title they won some seven years ago. City Trans are back on top after winning 5 - 1 at Netley, Captain Azor knocking in a 58 break in a determined effort.

Top break this week goes to Paul Adams (Churchills) with a late 65 as his team square the points at Sarisbury. Curdridge win 4 -2 at home to Totton Rec, breaks coming from the cues of Mike Kunzi (43) Steve Allen (39) and Tony Aldridge (35unf).

Hamble climb to sixth place with a 5 - 1 win at home to Woolston Cons B while Woolston Cons A asked Hythe for a postponement.

___________________

The top of the table clash went to Hythe, they beat Sarisbury 5 - 1 with Wayne Crotty scoring a 41 break. John Oldfield scored a 58. Woolston Cons B made short work by beating their A team by the same score, while bottom placed Netley Central took 5 points down at Hamble.

City Trans, who are now re-locating at Chandlers Ford Social Club for their remaining home matches, won 6 - 0 against the luckless Curdridge. John Mullane slotting breaks of 85 and 57, Danny Zags 64 and 48 and captain Azor a 50. And Churchills won their third match of the season at home to Totton Rec. Breaks here were made by Paul Adams 31, 35 and 32 for the victors and Steve Allen 31, Mike Kunzi 35, 30 and 31 and Tony Aldridge 40 and 49 for the losers.

Sarisbury back on top as the play and draw with City Trans in their re-arranged game. Hythe hang in there with a useful 4 points at Totton Rec, while Woolston Cons B earn 5 points at home to Netley. Sarisbury win 4 - 2 at home to last years champs, and City Trans take 5 in Eastleigh with Danny turning in breaks of 79 and 57. Curdridge entertained Hamble, and Curdridge won 4 - 2.

Sarisbury have won 58% of a possible 72 and teams are queuing up behind in what promises to be a close run thing by the end of March.

Danny Zagaroli scores a superb 106 break at Hythe, but it's honours even on the night when the match ended in a 3 - 3 draw.

Hamble Social took advantage of their home tables to register a 5 - 1 win against Churchills, while Woolston Cons B took 4 points down at Sarisbury. Netley won 4 - 2 at Curdridge and the same score emerged from Totton Rec when they played away to Woolston Cons A.

A superb 165 break from John Mullane (City Trans) sets the scene for the second half of the 2009 / 2010 season. Playing home to last years champs, City Trans eased to a 4 - 2 win. But Adam Nash found his old form with runs of 84, 51 and 61 to beat the City captain.

Wayne Crotty (Hythe) helped power his team to the top place with breaks of 48 and 39, scoring the max 6 points against visiting Hamble.

Churchills went down 4 - 2 to lowly Netley Central with Paul Adams (66, 46 and 38)
and Peter Green (41) registering for the losers.

Woolston Cons B took 4 points at home to Curdridge. Sarisbury were still snowed in, and did not play at Totton so the postponed matches now total 8.

Sarisbury stay top after their 6 - 0 drubbing at the hands of Hamble, second place Curdridge suffer the same result at Hythe, Totton lose 4 - 2 at City to end a five match unbeaten run while Churchills jump into the equation with a six pointer at home to Woolston Cons B. Revised handicaps will be the main agenda prior to 6th Jan 2010 when players will once again chalk their cues for remaining nine matches..... all to play for.....

City Trans return to the fold with a 99 from Danny and a 90 from Terry, Sarisbury and Curdridge maintain their positions, while Totton Rec storm into 3rd place having taken 24 points from their last 5 matches......

Sarisbury take 4 points away to Churchills, while Curdridge can manage only one point at Rumbridge Street. Woolston Cons B share the points with visiting Hamble, and City Trans postpone v Netley, both teams struggling for players. But the shock of the week must be Hythe's 6 - 0 demolition of Drew Farminer's champion side from last season.

Paul Adam's master-class, a 71 break followed by a 36, put Churchills in the driving seat at Totton Rec, but first season wins from the cues of Mick Kunzi(33 break) and John Ransom put the hosts in the lead. Steve Allen (44) edged the home side to an 18 aggregate points advantage. On the final table of the evening, Skip Tony Aldridge put in a timely 47, but lost by 17 to an in-form Mark Adams. Totton won 4 - 2 (959 - 958)

City Trans fielded John Mullane, Danny Zagaroli and Terry Azor(54 break) away to Curdridge but came away point-less.

Hythe suffered another 5 - 1 loss, this time away to Sarisbury, while Woolston Cons B edged out 4 - 2 winners against their A team. Netley v Hamble was postponed.

previous weeks

Danny Zagaroli (City Trans) knocked in breaks of 92, 69 and 72 unfinished. Terry Azor (78, 52 and 63) helped secure the 3 - 3 draw. Paul Adams replied with a 44 for the visitors.  Wayne Crotty (Hythe) rolled in with a break of 85 but could salvage but just one point from the visiting Totton Rec. Netley drew with Woolston Cons B but Sarisbury who had difficulty reading the tables last week, made good use of the experience to take 4 points off Woolston Cons A. Hamble always had the upper-hand against Curdridge in their 4 - 2 win but Captain Mary stole the show with a solid run of potting.

earlier news

Terry Azor sets the pace for the season's high break with a 69, in their 5 - 1 win against the visiting Hythe Social. Totton Rec get some points on the board thanks to Steve Allen and Tony Aldridge, but still lose 4 - 2 to the Farminer Champions. Woolston Cons B march on with a superb 5 - 1 win over Sarisbury, while Hamble take 4 points up at Churchills. Curdrigde v Netley postponed.

Terry Azor and Danny Zagaroli knock in the 50+ breaks, but still lose to Drew's Champions......... Netley Central march on despite Nick Alford failing to show...

Woolston Cons B, playing in their new premises, at 74, St Annes Road, inflicted a whitewash on the new Totton Rec team. Last year Woolston Cons B ended their season at the foot of the table........ this year who knows ??

Curdridge also did well, taking 5 points up at Churchills, where captain Mary was the only loser for the visitors. Pete Green scoring a 49 break.  Hythe entertained Netley and lost 4 - 2 while Champions (Bishopstoke) now playing as Woolston Cons A lost 4 - 2 down at Hamble.

What a difference a week makes. Woolston Cons A suffered a 6 - 0 defeat last week down at Hythe, but this week, playing home to Sarisbury, it was Woolston's turn to win by the same margin. John Oldfield with breaks of 37 and 39, battled to salvage a point, but the writing was on the wall with an aggregate score of 1000 - 703. Woolston Cons A jump into third place, still a long way behind the two leaders, who had only lost one match apiece. If Hythe can take 3 from their final match versus City Trans, then third place will be their's.

Wayne Crotty and his merry band at Hythe Social took delight on achieving a 6 - 0 victory over Woolston Cons A in their postponed match. The Hythe aggregate total of 1000 points left the visitors trailing some 270 in arrears. Captain Crotty scored breaks of 57 and 31, and constructive contributions came from the much improved Rob Tennant and Mike Rose. Wayne commented, "Revenge is sweet, after losing to this team 5 - 1 just three weeks ago."

Bishopstoke won their re-arranged match 4 - 2 at Hamble, whilst Curdridge ended with a flourish against a Netley Central side who had had a superb second half to the season.

City Transport's hopes of retaining an unbeaten run throughout the 2008/2009 billiards season were dashed, when visiting Woolston Cons A grafted their way through the evening for a 4 - 2 victory. Satpal Hans and Terry Azor took points for the home side, while Alex Dunkley (61 break), Mike Kunzi and Steve Allen ensured the aggregate point was won by 136 points.

With Bishopstoke winning 4 - 2 against Netley Central, the league title was decided, and some had said this was a foregone conclusion as long ago as week number 2.

Hythe and Churchills both enjoyed 5 - 1 wins away from home, at the expense of Woolston Cons B and Curdridge respectively. Sarisbury and Hamble drew 3 - 3

Steve Allen (Woolston Cons A) can be delighted with his performance at Curdridge this Weds. Playing last table of the evening, and conceding no less than 155 points on the handicap, Steve scored breaks of 38 and 50 to help the visitors to two league points from the six available.

No stopping City Trans (Danny and Terry 50+ breaks) as they inflicted another 5 - 1 defeat on Hythe. Netley Central also won 5 - 1, this time over Churchills and Woolston Cons B won 4 - 2 over visiting Sarisbury Social. John Oldfield knocking in a 54 break.

Hamble were not able to field a side against Bishopstoke and postponed the match.

Danny Zagaroli (City Trans) dominated once again with breaks of 87 and 73 helping his Portswood team to a 5 - 1 victory over Sarisbury. So the unbeaten run continues for Terry Azor's team, but statistically they are destined for second place, as the Bishopstoke machine rolls on. Another 5 -1 win for the latter over Churchills, means that 6 points from their final two matches will secure the League Shield.

Woolston Cons A (Alex Dunkley 33, Steve Allen 38 and 35, Tony Aldridge 36 and Mike Kunzi 43 unfinished) made sure of 5 points when entertaining Hythe. Wayne Crotty picking up the consolation at the end of the evening.

Chris Pullens Netley took 4 off the luckless Curdridge whilst Woolston Cons B and champions Hamble shared the spoils with the aggregate standing at 945 - 941. Close or what ??

Leaders Bishopstoke struggle against the expertise of Alex Dunkley, Tony Aldridge and Mike Kunzi who started the evening well for the host's, Woolston Cons A. But it was Adam Nash and Dan Hildyard who steadied the ship, the former knocking in a mainly "top of the table" 77.

City Trans continued to close the gap with a purposeful 4 - 2 win  at home to Netley. Terry Azor once again shining with a timely 57 break. Curdridge took 4 off last years champs Hamble, thanks to an improved performance from Stuart Hamper, whilst Hythe took the long trip to Sarisbury for their 4 - 2 win. Rob Tennant gaining a useful win over the home captain John Oldfield.

Churchills fine run of wins, lifts the Eastleigh side to third place and play their outstanding match at home tonight. (and the result, telephoned in by Drew Farminer.... 6 - 0 to Bishopstoke)

saw the clash of the top two, and at the end of the evening, honours shared. 3 points apiece and 70+ breaks from the cues of John Mullane and Adam Nash.

Would be chasers trying to close that 8 point gap for third place were thwarted as they tripped over there own endeavours. Woolston Cons A came off worst, losing 5 - 1 to their "B" team and last years Champions Hamble Club who went down 4 - 2 at home to the ever improving Churchills. The other 2 matches ended 3 - 3, but mention must go to my old friend and once a team mate at Botley, Steve Hulbert who knocked in a superb 48 break for Chris Pullen's Netley Central......

Terry Azor finds superb form with a 75 and a 70 unfinished against current Southampton Billiards Champion, Paul Adams as City win 4 - 2.

Bishopstoke continue in winning vein, with a 5 - 1 victory over Sarisbury.  Woolston Cons A could only manage 2 points down at Hamble despite Mike Kunzi putting in breaks of 31, 33 and 62, and Steve Allen 38 and 60. Netley Central entertained Hythe and held on for the 4 - 2 win while Curdridge and Woolston Cons B shared the spoils. The latter being one player short.

Bishopstoke increase their lead, after a 6 - 0 win at home to Woolston Cons B. Churchills continue to climb after a 5 - 1 win at Hythe and Netley Central take 4 off last years Champs, Hamble. Curdridge hang in there for a 3 - 3 draw with visiting City Trans while Sarisbury and Woolston Cons A postpone to a later date.

Break of the week comes from Derek Foster with a superb 76 for Churchills. (Well played Derek)

City Trans, now the only team this season to remain unbeaten, see themselves, with eight matches to play, as in with a viable chance of catching early leaders Bishopstoke Inst. Their 3 - 3 draw on the away tables at Hamble, thanks to the efforts of Malcolm Willis and Satpal Hans both scoring useful 30 breaks. Bishopstoke on the other hand suffered their first defeat, playing away to Hythe who brought in the evergreen Chris Wier. His contribution of two 30 breaks helped to secure the aggregate point, despite Adam Nash's 86 break (the highest of the week).

Paul Adams, playing Alex Dunkley, was in no mood to give away chances. Paul knocked in breaks of 36 and 76, to set his team up for a 4 - 2 win against visiting Woolston Cons A for whom captain Tony Aldridge fired in a 39 to beat Peter Green by 83. Derek Foster also found steady form, knocking in 31 and 30 unfinished to beat Parkstone's Mike Kunzi.

Sarisbury Green beat Curdridge 6 - 0 (Geoff Knapp 45) while Netley Central beat Wools Cons B 5 - 1.

Drew Farminer's team took a reduction in handicap (full handicap list... click here), but still produced a 4 - 2 win over Curdridge, thanks to a 70+ break by Adam Nash. City were assured the aggregate point when Sid's Woolston Cons B side fielded four. Hamble, last years winners, struggled also to fill a side, and playing with four lost 4 - 2 to Hythe.

Paul Adams' Churchills, now settling in at their new venue, really hit the high notes and trounced John Oldfield's Sarisbury 5 - 1. Woolston Cons A only took two tables thanks to Steve Allen(49) and Mike Kunzi (38), but did just enough to win the aggregate 918 - 915...... "phew", that was close.

4 of the 5 matches were played and Sarisbury Social hit the headlines with a 6 - 0 home win over Woolston Cons B. Woolston Cons A picked up 5 points, beating Curdridge at home. Gwen earned the single point when holding off a late rally by the Woolston Captain. Alex Dunkley knocked in a quick fire 60 and team mate Steve Allen slotted home a superb 59.

Bishopstoke, despite losing handicap from 3 players, beat last years Champs 5 - 1 while Netley returned from the Christmas festivities with a useful 4 - 2 win at home to Churchills.   City v Hythe postponed.

Leaders Bishopstoke were postponed when Churchills had sickness problems, but they did play their outstanding match versus City Transport. 3 - 3 was the result. The majority of the Bishopstoke team will now have their handicaps adjusted by the committee, as well as further review on the 18th January 2009 when all league individual handicaps face adjustment.

Hamble cemented their position in third place when they beat Woolston Cons B at St. Annes Road, while Sarisbury hung on for a 3 - 3 draw (only 1 point in the aggregate) against the visiting City Transport who welcomed Trevor Wells back to the fold after a 20 year absence.

Woolston Cons A and Netley Central cried off as several players were not available.

Despite a certain dimness at the spot end of table 2 at the Bishopstoke Institute Club (a 150 watt bulb and it's socket was missing), the match between the 2007 Champions Woolston Cons A and the newcomers went ahead.

Bishopstoke, up 'til now, had only dropped one point from the 24 available, but the result emerged as a 3 - 3 draw after Keith Castles reached the 200 target with a pot red to the top left hand pocket, leaving Adam Nash on 193. Earlier Woolston skipper Tony Aldridge, always chasing Drew Farminer's 55 handicap lead, clinched the game with a 38 unfinished break to win by 9. Mike Kunzi, whose handicap was dropped from 40 to 20 prior to this match, lost by 6 to the improving Dan Hildyard. Steve Allen was no match for the well handicapped Mike Fine and lost by 189. Alex Dunkley, playing on the "half-lit" table, levelled the match with a steady 44 break against Ollie Tydeman.

Terry Azor's City Transport took 5 points down at Netley Central, where reserve Steve Hulbert recorded a useful 41 break, but it was Malcolm Willis who ran out with a late 26 break to secure the aggregate.

Hamble won 5 - 1 against the visiting Curdridge, Hythe hammered Sarisbury 6 - 0 while Churchills took the final game to register a 4 -2 win away to Sid Hunt's Woolston Cons B.

"Newcomers" Bishopstoke Instititute record their third 6 - 0 victory, this time over the visiting Sarisbury. Drew Farminer's team head the table with 23 points, five points ahead of City Transport who gained a 4 - 2 win away to Churchills.

Hythe go down 4 -2 at home to Netley but it's Wayne Chiverton who finds excellent form to score breaks of 49 and 33.

Woolston Cons B trip over to Curdridge and Sid's team come away with 4 points.

Will Mildenhall lead the way for current champions with a 36 break, and his Hamble team romped to a 5 - 1 victory over a subdued Woolston Cons A.

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

A 96 break from the hands of Danny Zagaroli got the season off to a flying start. Playing on the away tables at Woolston Cons B, the visiting City Transport scored a 5 - 1 victory.

Woolston Cons A won by the same margin at Netley Central thanks to Alex Dunkley (59 break) Tony Aldridge (46) and Steve Allen (32).

New boys, Bishopstoke Inst won by an emphatic 6 - 0 away to Curdridge while the other two matches ended honours even at 3 - 3.

The fixtures for the new season have now been published, and a new team has been entered by Drew Farminer and Adam Nash.... Bishopstoke Institute.

And players should note that the Aero B team will now play at Netley Central, not Netley BL

how they ended last season... Hamble are Champions

Billiards 2008 Hamble Social Club are the new Southampton & District Billiards Champions.

The championship was not decided until the final postponed match was played. City Transport were looking for at least 5 points from their away match at Aero A, whilst the home side were looking for maximum points. City took the lead through Danny Zagaroli (58 break) and Malcolm Willis, but Aero fought back with Steve Boterhoek and Derek Foster levelling the match. John Mullane featured with a 76 break but was unable to claw the consession of 240 points of handicap. In the last game of the evening, skipper Peter Green held his advantage to win by 200 - 180. The aggregate was out of reach and the final score of 3 - 3 meant that Hamble Social hang on to top spot, and are crowned Southampton Billiards Champions for the first time.
