Sheffords win first ‘Dads and Lads’ trophy

GLENN and Gavin Shefford clinched the 44th Chandler’s Ford Family Doubles final with a fine win over nine-year-old wonderkid Shane Castle and dad Jeffery.

The Eastleigh pair eased through the group stages and beat Scott Sugden, 10, and granddad Martin Tupper in the semis.

Dad Gavin, 38, (pictured) who runs his own software company, and 14-year-old son Glenn play together for Southampton Social Clubs’ Division 1 outfit Bishopstoke Institute.

Gavin recorded the day’s top break of 25 in the quarters.

The Castles (Marchwood) beat James Hollick and dad Graham in the other semi.

Fish and chip shop owner Beverley Roling, the only woman among the 16 teams, reached the quarter-finals with 16-year-old son Lee.
