news from May 2008........

POSTMAN ROB HOSEY has delivered first division snooker to the ASHLETT CLUB B team for the first time in their history.

After three years in Division 2, the club’s B side have gained promotion as champions. left to right: Kin Yau, Rob Hosey, Dave Bundy, Richard Denham.

Skipper Hosey said: “It’d be hard to pick out a star player because they’ve all done very well. We’ve improved quite a lot over the last couple of years. It’ll be a good test.”

The 28-year-old, who joined the team ten years ago in Division 6, believes a crucial 3-2 win over second-placed Salterns WMC A in the third-last game of the season secured the title.

Needing one frame in their last match, they were gifted a 3-0 win as bottom-placed Swaythling could not raise a team.

The club, based in a 19th century building on the bank of Ashlett Creek near Fawley, has another reason to celebrate.

The C side, led by Nick Miles, are Division 4 champions.

Star player Mark Britton won every frame this season and chalked up the division’s highest break of 46. They will be joined in Division 3 by Ashlett A, who are relegated from Division 2.
