Paul Adams Southampton Billiards Champion 2005 and again in 2008.
Paul Adams (Aero A) has won the prestigious Southampton Senior
Individual Scratch Billiards Championship for the third time beating Alex
Dunkley (Woolston Cons A) at Cue-Ts Snooker Club, Marchwood In the semi-final Adams played Wayne Crotty (Hythe Social) and led by
100 points at the half way point (3/4 of an hour) but Crotty in his first semi,
played well to lead in the second period making two 31s. Adams responded in
style with breaks of 70 and 46 to win 384-236 In the other semi, defending champion Daniel Zagaroli (City Transport)
played Alex Dunkley and lost out to the semi-final first timer by a nail biting
351-339 In the two hour final Adams led by 251-109 in the first period thanks to
some well constructed all round billiards but in the second hour Dunkley showed
his awesome potting prowess to keep up with the Hampshire team player. Adams
however pulled away with breaks of 44, 35 and 34 and runs over 25 to win by
492-309 for a well-deserved victory Adams said “I dedicate this win to my late father and Aero team mate
who passed away in June. He inspired me to the first two wins over England
players Dave Burgess and John Mullane and would be incredibly proud to see me
lift the trophy again
PAUL ADAMS, who plays for Aerostructures A (Smiths Industries) in Hamble and The Petersfield Bowling and Snooker Club, recently made a century at both Billiards and Snooker on the same day! Is this a record in Hampshire…? He made a magnificent 136 in the Southampton Billiard League and a 103 in a snooker game at the Petersfield club where he practices. Paul’s highest break at Billiards is 150 and a 135 total clearance at Snooker. He has represented Southampton at both games and Hampshire for Billiards alongside John Mullane and Terry Azor in the County Triples team. In 2006 they reached the County final beating England Internationals along the way. Paul beat John Mullane in the 2005 Southampton Individual Billiards Championship final making an 85 break Tony Aldridge took Paul under his wing when he played Billiards for Pot Black in the 80s and taught him the rudiments of the game. He has never looked back… well done Tony!
Paul plays top-of-the-table, in this pose.......
