way back up to second with 12 tournaments to play. Malcolm
Harvey, who split the £100 final pot in competition No 93 with veteran Clarrie
Moore, said: “It would take a very good run of results to win overall in the
time left, but in snooker you never give up until it is mathematically
impossible to win.” Rankings

A RETURN to the game after
a seven-year break has proved to be a culture shock for a 50-year-old man who is
leading the race for a £1,000 jackpot in Hampshire’s richest amateur
competition. Paul
Solloway, long-time leader in the Chandler’s Ford £2,500 Senior Roll-Up
handicap series, has extended his advantage with 14 tournaments to play. A
£90 split final with last season’s runner-up Malcolm Harvey gave Solloway
some breathing space as he is set to miss a couple of weeks.
“I’m
getting a bit nervous now,” he said. “I’m going to miss five tournaments
when I go on holiday and they’re starting to catch me up. “I
found it so hard because I had seven years off and when I came back it was a
different game. I’ve started to enjoy it again and I’ve got the bit between
my teeth. “When
I was playing there were just a handful of players who were really good.
There’s so many good players around now, it’s scary. “I’d
love to win it; I’d be so happy.” Solloway
was “disappointed” not to make it two finals on the spin after losing 2-1
from 1-0 up against Dave Nunn in the semi-finals of comp No 91. Nunn
(£90) beat Jamie Owens (£40) in the final. Top

of a 2-0 first-round victory against Alex Dunkley (Bursledon). Ollie
Tydeman (£60) completed an unbeaten weekend with a 2-1 win over Dave Nunn (£30)

this week’s Chandler’s Ford £2,500 Senior Roll-Up inspired Paul Solloway to
a first final of the season. Solloway,
who missed the end of the Summer Bonanza after falling off a ladder, split the
£120 final with 16-year-old Daniel Woods (Hedge End). But
the early leader in the year-long race for a £1,000 jackpot is Ollie Tydeman
who reached his second final on Thursday. The
17-year-old shared £110 with Jamie Southall (Winchester) to take his total
winnings to £105.

IT came three days too late. On the same table that he lost the vital semi-final that cost him £500 on the final night of the Chandler’s Ford £2,500 Senior Roll-Up season, Malcolm Harvey beat Lee Roling to start the new campaign in pole position. Left-hander Harvey (West End) split the first final pot of £90 with Duncan Slade (Brambridge). Romsey painter and decorator Nigel Spiers brushed aside Pot Black captain Steve Boterhoek to take the £10 Plate.
IT’S going to the wire. At the end of the biggest night of Chandler’s Ford Snooker Club’s year Arron McIntyre or Malcolm Harvey will take home £1,000. With one competition left in the £2,500 Senior Roll-Up, McIntyre is desperately hanging on to a slim £10 lead. Harvey (West End) needs a semi-final appearance or a Plate win to overtake the 18-year-old in what is expected to be a high turnout for the highlight of the calendar. McIntyre (Hiltingbury) needs to match Harvey to pocket the South’s richest cash prize in amateur snooker. Second place is worth £500. But it could have been so different. Derek Castle beat Harvey in the semi-final of competition No 101 to chalk up a first final and Billy Castle, 15, ended Tim Dunkley’s chances in the second round. The father and son from Marchwood split the £90 final pot. In the previous tournament, Jamie Owens and Drew Farminer shared £110. A £10 Plate final victory over 75-year-old Clarrie Moore edged Carlo Cavagnetto up to fifth. Top six money winners: McIntyre £755, Harvey £745, Dunkley £645, Nigel Spiers £560, Cavagnetto £552 and Scott McGaw £545.
WEST End’s Malcolm Harvey breathed a sigh of relief as he potted a long pink that blew the Chandler’s Ford Senior Roll-Up £1,000 jackpot race wide open. Harvey needs just £10 to catch Arron McIntyre (Hiltingbury) with three tournaments left after a 2-1 semi-final victory in the small hours of the morning that destroyed Tim Dunkley’s chances of a second title. “I’m pleased to still be in the top three having gone 17 competitions without reaching a final,” said Harvey, who fired in breaks 28, 30, and 32 in the early rounds. “At least it keeps the competition interesting until the final stages!” World Snooker coach and 2005 champion Dunkley (Bursledon) said: “That pink could’ve been worth £600 to Malcolm or me. “The best I can hope for is £400. I’ll need two finals out of three to have any chance now.” Billy Castle, 15, compiled a 65 to beat Lee Roling and split his first final pot of £145 with Harvey. In Thursday’s action, Nigel Spiers (Romsey) climbed to fourth after sharing £90 with Roling. Top four: McIntyre (£755), Harvey (£745), Dunkley (£645), Spiers (£560) The new £2,500 series kicks off at 6.30pm on Sunday, September 2. All entry fees are paid out as cash prizes on the night except for a percentage which is ‘rolled-up’ for the top six money winners over the year. Contact Jim Everett (023 8025 4834) for details.

But the 18-year-old from Hiltingbury refused to accept that the Chandler’s Ford £2,500 Senior Roll-Up race is over after two final appearances in seven days dented the chances of long-time favourite Malcolm Harvey. McIntyre (£75) beat Ollie Tydeman (£35) 2-1 in Sunday’s final and split Thursday’s £100 prize pot with 2005 champion Tim Dunkley (Bursledon). Alex Dunkley chalked up a 19th competitive century in the first round. The 19-year-old fired in 112 but lost 2-1 to McIntyre. Harvey, a printer from West End, had the consolation of a £10 black-ball Plate final victory over Pot Black captain Steve Boterhoek (Thornhill). With five competitions to play in the year-long series, McIntyre, £755, leads from Harvey, £672, Dunkley, £645, Scott McGaw (Calmore), £545, Carlo Cavagnetto, £532, and Nigel Spiers (Romsey), £515.
BISHOPSTOKE 's captain DREW FARMINER (pictured left) made a first Chandler’s Ford £2,500 Senior Roll-Up final appearance as the race for the £1,000 top prize enters its last three weeks. Farminer, who knocked in a 51 against Dave Nunn (Winchester) in the last-eight, said that the £60 prize was “not bad for a night’s work” after beating Ken Everett (£30) 2-1 in the final. In Thursday’s competition, Ollie Tydeman (£60) swept past World Snooker coach Tim Dunkley 2-0 to deny the 2005 champion second place.
